The National Service Authority (NSA) has pledged to raise the monthly allowances for trainees in the next service cycle. Director-General Felix Gyamfi revealed that discussions are underway with the Finance Ministry to secure additional funding in the forthcoming national budget. "There's an opportunity to include it in the budget very soon. I'm confident the new cohorts will receive the revised allowances," he stated.
Speaking during a Pre-Service Orientation in Kumasi, Mr. Gyamfi also announced that PIN codes have been issued to 132,393 prospective service personnel—a decline of 26% compared to previous years, and down 36% from the peak in 2022/2023. Approximately 3,597 applications were rejected because the originating institutions lacked accreditation, according to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.
The reduction in enrollment, he noted, could help the government save more funds and channel those savings into improved allowances. “With GHS 750 per person, the savings will be quite notable,” Gyamfi remarked
In addition, the NSA is encouraging Small and Medium‑Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to absorb trainees, emphasizing their vital role in economic growth. Gyamfi highlighted that businesses in areas like Abossey Okai, Kokompe, and Suame Magazine—especially car parts dealers—often operate on a scale comparable to IT firms and could provide valuable practical experience to service personnel.
Additionally, around 10,000 trainees are set to undergo basic military training, focusing on discipline, alertness, and emergency response—with final placements determined by the NSA Secretariat.
Mr. Gyamfi concluded by urging young Ghanaians to seize the opponities the NSA is offering as part of their national service.
