Interior Ministry renews Nalerigu curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., urging peace and banning weapons.

The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has reviewed and renewed the curfew imposed on Nalerigu Township and its surrounding communities in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region. The new curfew hours will run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily, effective Monday, August 18, 2025.

This decision forms part of government’s broader efforts to maintain peace, law, and order in the area, which has in recent times experienced heightened tension and security concerns. By adjusting the curfew hours, the Ministry seeks to ease daily activities while continuing to safeguard lives and property.

In its statement, the Ministry called on chiefs, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of Nalerigu and its environs to remain calm and work collectively toward sustaining peace. It further encouraged the use of dialogue and other non-violent approaches in addressing grievances and disputes.

The government also reminded the public of the absolute ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons within the township and surrounding areas. Anyone found violating this directive will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Interior Ministry emphasized that while security agencies are committed to ensuring safety, lasting peace can only be achieved through cooperation, tolerance, and community dialogue. Residents are therefore urged to support the security measures as government continues to monitor the situation closely.
