Energy Ministry: no scheduled outages; rejects ‘dumsor’ timetable while ensuring grid stability.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has firmly rejected the Minority caucus’s demand for a formal load-shedding (“dumsor”) timetable, insisting that Ghana’s current generation capacity comfortably satisfies peak electricity needs . In a press release dated Monday, May 19, the Ministry labelled the request “misplaced,” noting there is presently no basis for instituting scheduled outages .

Contrary to the Minority’s characterization of an “unannounced return to dumsor,” the Ministry emphasised that national power output meets demand even during high-usage periods . Members of the Minority had accused both the Ministry and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) of “deceptive silence” over erratic supply, arguing that a clear timetable would help households, businesses, and essential services plan effectively .

The press release, signed by Richmond Rockson, Esq., Spokesperson and Head of Communications at the Energy Ministry, acknowledged inherited challenges within the transmission and distribution network but underscored collaborative efforts with industry stakeholders to eliminate unplanned disruptions . It highlighted ongoing monitoring of generation units and upgrades to distribution infrastructure as key measures to safeguard consistent service

Reaffirming government commitment, the Ministry stated, “The Government remains committed to the consistent provision of electricity to the Ghanaian people” and urged the public to disregard speculation about scheduled blackouts . It closed by reassuring that any future load management requirements would be communicated transparently, should conditions change .
