A 17-year-old student of Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Kumasi—identified as Suzzy Pinamang—was accidentally shot in the eye by a classmate wielding a locally manufactured firearm. After initial treatment at Agarwal Eye Hospital produced encouraging results, philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has stepped in to cover her further care and arrange for her to travel abroad—either to the United Kingdom or India—for specialist eye surgery. Meanwhile, the accused teenager has been granted bail by the Twedie District Court as investigations continue.

A firearm, reportedly owned by the suspect’s father, discharged unintentionally during school hours at Adventist SHS, striking Suzzy in the eye and prompting an immediate medical response. The teenager responsible was detained and subsequently appeared before the Twedie District Court, where bail was set at GHC 200,000. He is expected to return to court as police carry on with their inquiry into the circumstances of the shooting .

Following the incident, Suzzy was rushed to the Agarwal Eye Hospital in Kumasi. Doctors there conducted preliminary tests and reported “encouraging” findings, though they stressed that additional surgery would be essential to maximize her chances of full recovery.

Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has pledged to underwrite all outstanding medical expenses for Suzzy’s treatment. Through his office—represented by aide Rafik Mahama—arrangements are underway to secure her passage abroad for advanced care. While India was among the initial options, recent communications indicate the United Kingdom may now be the preferred destination for her specialist surgery .

Rafik Mahama also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for fast-tracking Suzzy’s visa and passport processes, ensuring no delays in her departure for overseas treatment
